Welcome

Kent has a long tradition of celebrating milestones in the agricultural calendar and although they now have a lesser effect on the economy, the excuse for a party remains.
Folk law is closely associated with rural beliefs and as such there are many Folk Festivals and Folk Clubs throughout Kent, ensuring that the traditional music of the countryside and its people is maintained.
One of the most popular is Broadstairs Folk Festival, the former home of Charles Dickens.

Not surprisingly, Hops have been a very important part of Kentish life since the early days, when man first discovered the pleasures of drinking Ale. The effect of this plant removes the inhibitions and releases the colourful characters of the men and women that like to sing, dance and make music to celebrate this noble herb. |

Faversham has long been at the heart of the Hop growing and Brewing industry and the enthusiasm for it's Hop Festival is every bit as strong today as it has been throughout the history of the town.

Farmer's markets are becoming very popular throughout Kent and give the opportunity for local growers to sell directly to the public. This marks a return to the traditional rural method of local markets and is supported equally by the farmers and the consumers.
It's green, it makes economic sense and it's a lot of fun.

H.E Bates was fascinated by the country characters he met while living at Little Chart, which inspired him to write The Darling Buds of May.
His memory is celebrated today in the annual Darling Buds of May Classic Car Rally with Pop Larkin's Rolls Royce taking centre stage.

H.E. Bates loved Kent and his description of the villages through the Weald of Kent, captures perfectly, the love and enthusiasm that the Kent Farm Holiday Group have in promoting their little bit of England.
" You might....by going down through Smarden, Biddenden, Sissinghurst, Goudhurst, Benenden, Newenden, Northiam and Brede see a chain of villages which are like a row of matched and graduated stones on a necklace, warm and clear and fresh, not one out of place." |
